Highlights

We Have Ourselves a new Star!

Tamara

Tamara did a first for the club: She is the first girl to ever score a hat trick in a boys league. She currently plays for the U11/D and they beat Michael Mount by 3 goals to 1 - and Tamara scored all 3 goals. Congratulations!!!

The Sporting U/11 age group has in excess of 60 players with the A, B and C teams all fighting for honors this year. The A team who are in the top flight in the age group are currently in 2nd place and the B and C sides are both leading their respective leagues.

Unfortunately the association was unable to accommodate the D team within the U/11 structures and the club was forced to enter them in the U/12 league. As one can well imagine this has been a huge jump for these young players, of which many have never played club soccer before.

The young players have a great attitude; even though goals have been scarce they continue to come back for more showing great character. Their commitment and persistence has eventually paid off when they recorded their first win on Sunday the 6th of August 2010 beating Michael Mount 3-1 at the Lion’s Den.

The team played great football and dominated the game from the start. In the 12th minute though, against the run of play, Michael Mount took the lead with a good counter attack. Instead of dropping their heads the Sporting players picked up the tempo even more and continued to attack the Michael Mount goal.

Early in the 2nd half Sporting got a well deserved equalizer and soon after got a 2nd. Michael Mount who failed to convert a penalty went 3-1 down 5 minutes from time. Every player, from the goalkeeper to the strikers played fantastic, but the hero of the day was Tamara da Silva, one of two girls in the squad, who scored all 3 Sporting goals.

Well Done Guys and Gals

Congratulations

Congratulations to the Sporting F.C. Senior Team on winning the league title 2010! That makes two league titles in a row, and thereby retaining the championship.
